Brunhilda And The Dark Crystal – Review Of The Whole Game

by Mike on June 30, 2010

I have played many hidden object games, but the one I wish to write about was a great surprise for me – Brunhilda and the Dark Crystal.

The game takes Brunhilda, a nice girl from New York, on an unexpected wild journey to the varied lands of the Magical Realm – a place she thought was just an innocent, weird fantasy of her eccentric aunt. The story focuses on an ancient prophecy and makes Brunhilda personally responsible for solving the great mystery of fading magic and, as it turns out, also saving the world. Together with a funny demon friend, Brunhilda learns how to cast magic spells, dares to disturb sleeping dragons, deals with air pirates and learns the arcane crafts of Wizardry, Alchemy and Telepathy in funny minigames. The story is packed with many twists and turns, humorous dialogues and the gameplay is a mixture of hidden object mechanic, puzzles and point and click quest solving.

The game is similar to some classic downloadable games when it comes to dialogues, story and theme, but it has a truly casual gameplay mechanic where you search for hidden objects and solve mindbending puzzles. The game is not very difficult so I’m sure that even older people and children will be able to enjoy it.

The graphics and music in the game are nothing but stunning. I’ve shown the game to my uncle and I literally couldn’t drag him away from the computer. We both laughed constantly at the funny comments made by the cartoon Daemon character in the game. The game reminded me of Legend of Kyrandia and also had a little Harry Potter feel to it. It took me many hours (probably more than 10) to complete the game, but I had lots of fun and will certainly be waiting for a sequel. There is a free demo available on the official game website (www.brunhildathegame.com) so you can check it out for free and decide if you want to purchase it.

The game run smoothly and didn’t give me any errors, but if I was able to change one thing in the game I would definitely add more mini games. The ones included in Brunhilda where great, and I’m sure the game could be much better if there were more of them. All mini games are about spellcasting – first one is about finding morphing runes inside an old spellbook, the second one is about making magic potions (you have to catch the good drops into your veil) and the last one is about contacting via crystal balls and features finding differences in a mirrored picture.

To sum up, I highly recommend that you download Brunhilda and the Dark Crystal today and start playing it right away. Just remember to recommend the game to your friends like I did :)
