Ten Best Drama Movies In Ever

by Mike on June 19, 2010

In the ranking of the magazine “free movies online“, was released 10 best drama movies in the history of cinema.

Coming up with a list of the top 10 best drama movies of all time was definitely a challenge. There are so many classic

films/movies out there that even narrowing it down to just 10 was tough.

10th Place

Forrest Gump (1994)

The story follows the life of low I.Q. Forrest Gump and his meeting with the love of his life Jenny. The film chronicles his accidental experiences with some of the most important people and events in America from the late 1950′s through the 1970′s including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, fighting in Vietnam, etc. The problem is, he’s too stupid to realize the significance of his actions. Forrest becomes representative of the baby boomer generation having walked through life blindly.

9th Place

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest tells a classic story of one man (Jack Nicholson) railing against the establishment. With superb acting, memorable characters, and a markedly humanistic story, Cuckoo’s Nest proves to be a timeless tale – as emotionally effective and engrossing today as it was 30 years ago. The film swept the Academy Awards in 1976 – winning Best Picture, Best Director (Milos Forman), Best Actor (Nicholson), Best Actress (Louise Fletcher), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben & Bo Goldman) – a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night in 1931.

8th Place

The Dark Knight (2008)

Set within a year after the events of Batman Begins, Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon, and new district attorney Harvey Dent successfully begin to round up the criminals that plague Gotham City until a mysterious and sadistic criminal mastermind known only as the Joker appears in Gotham, creating a new wave of chaos. Batman’s struggle against the Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to “confront everything he believes” and improve his technology to stop him. A love triangle develops between Bruce Wayne, Dent and Rachel Dawes.

7th Place

Gone with the Wind (1939)

This classic film narrates the love between Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler during the American civil war. It’s the history of a selfish woman who doesn’t want to admit her feelings about the man she loves, and finally loses him.

6th Place

Sunset Boulevard (1950)

The story, set in ’50s Hollywood, focuses on Norma Desmond, a silent-screen goddess whose pathetic belief in her own indestructibility has turned her into a demented recluse. The crumbling Sunset Boulevard mansion where she lives with only her butler, Max who was once her director and husband has become her self-contained world. Norma dreams of a comeback to pictures and she begins a relationship with Joe Gillis, a small-time writer who becomes her lover, that will soon end with murder and total madness.

5th Place

Schindler’s List (1993)

The true story of Czech born Oskar Schindler, a businessman who tried to make his fortune during the Second World War by exploiting cheap Jewish labour, but ended up penniless having saved over 1000 Polish Jews from almost certain death during the holocaust.

4th Place

Citizen Kane (1941)

Kenosha, WI native Orson Welles made this film, considered by many as the world’s greatest cinematic achievement, based on the life of William Randolph Hearst, the famous newspaperman. It established a number of cinematic standards, including the use of deep focus, which lends the film rich texture and deep shadows.

Its brilliant use of atmosphere is not its only joy. Across the board, performances are wonderful – from Welles’ own portrayal of newspaper mogul Charles Foster Kane to Joseph Cotton’s gripping turn as right-hand man Jedediah Leland.

Citizen Kane stands as the ultimate character study and one of the most beautifully-shot epics to ever grace the silver screen.

3th Place

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Stanley Kubrick’s spare style and unflinching eye were put to amazing use in this adaptation of the Anthony Burgess novel. The futuristic film tells the story of Alex and his group of droogs (friends), who spend their lives cruising around the bombed-out city, looking for “a bit of the old ultra-violence.” Stylish and brutal, amoral yet deeply humanistic, A Clockwork Orange is one of the most unique films ever committed to the screen, and stands as an odd testament to the human spirit and what makes us all tick.

2th Place

The Godfather (1972)

The story begins as “Don” Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia “family”, oversees his daughter’s wedding. His beloved son Michael has just come home from the war, but does not intend to become part of his father’s business. Through Michael’s life the nature of the family business becomes clear. The business of the family is just like the head of the family, kind and benevolent to those who give respect, but given to ruthless violence whenever anything stands against the good of the family. Don Vito lives his life in the way of the old country, but times are changing and some don’t want to follow the old ways and look out for community and “family”. An up and coming rival of the Corleone family wants to start selling drugs in New York, and needs the Don’s influence to further his plan. The clash of the Don’s fading old world values and the new ways will demand a terrible price, especially from Michael, all for the sake of the family.

1th Place

Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Andy Dufresne is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Set in the 1940′s, the film shows how Andy, with the help of his friend Red, the prison entrepreneur, turns out to be a most unconventional prisoner.
