Are there any dangers in playing free internet games on the Net?

It appears not- as long as you are using a reputable site. The games are generally Flash, so the risk should be no more than visiting a website. You should have up to date virus checking software installed anyway. This is a must. There are really so many good free ones that there is no excuse. Without them you are vulnerable as long as you are connected to the Internet.
Of course you may become addicted to a game or have to stay up till two in the morning to beat your kids high score, or worse still your significant other’s high score… but then that can happen with any purchased game as well.

I am on a limited Bandwidth Plan. Will it run up my costs?

The games are generally pretty small and despite what it appears, they only download once, so the bandwidth usage is minimal. If you are concerned or don’t believe me check your usage before and after playing for an hour and see what it used (assuming nothing else is happening in the background on your computer or another computer in the house at the time).

I am worried I will be spammed. Why do they need my email address?

Check the website privacy policy. Any good one will have a policy and assure you that your email is safe and will not be sold. Once again is not 100 per cent foolproof, just as giving your email address to anyone these days, but you can always report them if you get unwanted emails. Generally they won’t be around too long if they try this on. A really good trick that I use if you have your own domain name or a provider who gives lots of email addresses on your account for free is to sign up using an email address that is unique and only used the once to sign up to that site. That way if you get spammed from anyone else you can be sure they sold it and can be reported. The evidence is clear. E.g. to signup at cyberarena.co.nz I would sign up as cyberarena@mydomainhere.com (where of course ‘mydomainhere’ is your domain name).

How do I find a good site?

Try the one above, cyberarena.co.nz of just Google web on-line games for a heap more closer to you. There really are a lot of games sites out there. Some give prizes and other benefits.
